About Racial Clarity
Racial Clarity, by Phillip McCullough Jr., is a digest-sized paperback that contains 198 pages dedicated to discussing and portraying different aspects on racism and race relations in America. It is a literary journey that promises to take the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride through different aspects on race relations from one black man in America. My hope is that this book on racism and race relations will challenge many Americans to question what type of world they would like their children to inherit, and help people to understand the dynamics of racism from the perspective of one African-American man.
Socio-economic segregation based on racism provides fertile ground for all manner of ills that can slowly rob a nation of life. America is showing the symptoms today. The socio-economic gap between blacks and whites is widening. Inequities and disparities in education, infrastructure, health care, etc. are the symptoms. And, they are foreboding.
The seeming unwillingness of those in positions of power and influence to make sure that all of America’s citizens are prepared and able to add to the economic enrichment and creativity of our country is already causing America to lose its footing as the leader in the global economy. This doesn’t even include America’s loss of social and political credibility due to questionable policies by all divisions of government. As a nation, we can treat and turn back this disease. But first, we must cleanse our hearts and be true tourselves and God.
Racial Clarity is self-published—partly because I like it this way, and partly because there are too many unnecessary obstacles overcome to get a book about racism and race relations published by a “major” publishing house due to seemingly arbitrary and subjective standards by executives that are not in touch with the average black man. Every word was chosen, and every sentenced crafted to make this one-of-a-kind book second to none. The works span over two decades, and some of the poems that were written 20 years ago have a message that still applies today. The images are simple, but like the emboldened quotations that reside on some of the pages unto themselves, they will illicit much thought and introspection. Racial Clarity is simple, yet refined. It is a relatively short trip in pages, but this book about racism and race relations opens up the doors of different perspectives that will take your mind on an unending journey through the complex and expansive racial divide that exists in America.
