On The Wall

As the father and son
Stared wide-eyed down the hall
The boy said,
“Dad there aren’t any blacks
On the wall.
“It seems like every time we visit
An important building,
I see white folks’ pictures
From the floor to the ceiling.
“Why is this, Dad?
Why is this so?
Why are there white pictures
Wherever we go?
When it comes to blacks,
There aren’t any pictures at all.
All I see are white folks’
Pictures on the wall.”
